Next SE-Bar at the Hub introduces you to BeeUrban

Nov 18, 2011

Did you know that every third bite you eat is pollinated by honeybees?

Or that the global pollination value of bees perform is valued at staggering SEK 1500 billion!

Next SE-Bar on November 30th at the Hub Stockholm introduces you to BeeUrban. Founded by two environmentally concious biologists Karolina Lisslö & Josefina Oddsberg

Bee Urban’s purpose is to spread awareness and knowledge about the pollination effectiveness of bees and their impact on both a local and global scale. In addition, their company’s byproduct is fresh, local honey. In Sweden, the value of Swedish crops are SEK 325 million, and then either the honey value or the value of the ecosystem service of pollination are included. 76 percent of what we eat in the EU and 84 percent of all vegetation is effected by pollination. In recent years it has been reported from parts of the world that bees some regions have lost up to 80 percent of their bee colonies in 2010 and Sweden has lost 25 percent. If bees disappear, we would have an extremely limited diet. In areas where bees have already disappeared, villagers have pollinate by hand which is an unsustainable process since it is expensive and laboriuos in a larger scale.

Come and be inspired mingle and find out what you can do to help our environment in a simple way! Sign up here!

The seminar will highlight the following themes:
- Why have bees in the city?
- How do you value an ecosystem service?
- How would Bee Urban be able to reach out faster to the public?
